Murphy, H.S. - 1946 - A letter to the editor of the
"Chronicle"
Sir, I would be very grateful if you could spare me a little space in your paper, as i
would like the R.C.Church in Newtownards to know that i am free to go into whatever
Protestant church i like.
I go to all parades of Ex-Servicemen and o won't stand outside the church to please
anyone. If the service is inside i will go in and if the service is open air i will take
part in the service.
I would also like them to know that my wife has nothing to do with my decision. It is by
my order that my wife and family attend the Protestant church. The R.C. church never gave
me any support when i was in need, therefore they have no claim on me. Thank God i am
happy. My fathers life was wrecked by dictators but mine won't be.
I would also like you to thank the committee of the welcome home fund and the townspeople
generally for the generous cheque i received. I can assure you their knidness was greatly
appreciated.
Yours sincerely, H.S. Murphy of 11 Zion Place, N'Ards.
